적적해서 그런지‘s Soundchecking is an EP recorded in 2010, but released in May 2011 that combines alternative grunge and garage rock together. It contains 5 songs that feel aggressive even without the use of screaming or complex arrangements.

Listening through the EP, I got the feeling there was a large amount of emotion that went into the creation of each song. It’s not overtly pushy in the tone, but the 4 members created a tightly arranged release.

Amazingly, Soundchecking doesn’t actually sound very “Korean” and could easily sit in the grunge of the United States. Each of the songs present something a little different, but connect to the EP together.

Besides the grunge and garage rock style, there is feeling of jazz and blues that appears occasionally. It speaks to the abilities of 적적해서 그런지 with their ability to create dynamic music. They also touch on a small bit of shoegaze elements.

Soundchecking might sound straightforward from a casual listen, but the EP is dense. There is a lot of polyrhymetic measures in the songs. The EP is something different, but a very strong release.

Though before listening to Soundchecking, I was told that the band has changed their sound and don’t play the same style as Soundchecking. Regardless, 적적해서 그런지 have some serious talent and whatever style they choose to play is sure to impress.
