Sweet Revenge‘s major label debut was partially a strange transformation and disappointment in the change in tone. But as I kept listening to the very short EP, I found new appreciation in a band that could still create their own music.

It was big news in media that Sweet Revenge had written their debut single, but with other releases when they were an indie band, it wasn’t that surprising. The title track “Rule Breaker” is a combination of pop and pop punk. It’s repetitious, but contains a great hook that is repeated a lot.

The other songs on the EP aren’t as catchy and one is even just an intro track, but the ability and talent of the band is far higher than other “produced” bands. It’s just hoping that Sweet Revenge can continue to make music on their terms.

Sweet Revenge may have joined the major label world, but they came from the indies.
