JU+DY is a new duo from Juhee Ryu and Andy Cook. Originally from Busan, Juhee lives in New York along with “Brooklyn-via-Midwest musician” Andy. They created an introduction video on their YouTube that’s worth a look. It seems that New York is a big hub of Korean artists now and a lot of artists are starting to emerge.
The single, “1,2,3,4,” is a low-key and mellow track featuring both English and Korean lyrics. It carries elements of folk and indie rock glued together with a bit of synth. It’s not as noticeable on the single, but there is a Midwest indie rock influence that also appears. Bits of psychedelia are introduced through the guitars and the vocals too. Overall, it’s an interesting start from the pair and I’m curious to see what comes next.
