Something else to giveaway!
Update: I went down to see the last Seoulsonic show in Los Angeles on April 5th, 2012. While I was there, I asked and had Choi JaeHyuk sign the shirts and CDs, so now the Seoulsonic t-shirts and Yellow Monsters have all the signatures of the three bands.
Also, I picked up something else to giveaway, a Yellow Monsters t-shirt! So because there are going to be more items, the giveaway will extend one more week until April 14, 2012.
Since many of you are unable to attend Seoulsonic 2012, I thought it would be cool to have the band members (minus Choi JaeHyuk of Yellow Monsters) sign two t-shirts and Yellow Monsters sign their CDs.
So….
koreanindie.com is going to have a contest for 3 winners.
Entering is simple:
1. Name 3 bands you would like to see play Seoulsonic and where you would want them to play.

1. Name 3 bands you would like to see play Seoulsonic and where you would want them to play.
I’d love to see IS (Infinity of Sound) because I’m really curious about them and I’d like to hear traditional Korean instruments live; EE because I think it would be a shitshow of a fun party; Humming Urban Stereo because it would be really chill and because I’m slightly obsessed with Lee Jeereen. I want them to play in Toronto, Canada (also playing NYC in the same leg of the tour) while I’m in Toronto because I think Toronto will dig those bands.
2. Tell us your favorite song from any of the Seoulsonic 2012 bands and how you first heard of them.
3rd Line Butterfly – 그녀에게… I first heard them via orienkorean’s youtube page (this song http://youtu.be/LUqqQXceUqE)
Three Bands:
-스키조 (schizo)
-고스트윈드 (gostwind)
-허클베리핀 (huckleberry finn)
where: Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL
preferred song: 거울아 거울아 x 3rd Line Butterfly. I first heard of this band not too long ago at the same time I began learning korean. I was actually really liking Huckleberry Finn for sometime before I stumbled on 3LB and even longer before I realized that 남상아 was their vocalist on the first album. Long story short, I even watched the movie 질주 just because of her,but then that’s probably TMI…
1. Nell, AshGray & The KOXX. I chose these three, because they make different kinds of indie music and I think it would be a perfect combination.
Where? I live in Germany so I would prefer a concert in Europe. 😉 I think in Germany there are a lot of indie fans in Frankfurt, Cologne and Hamburg.
2. 3rd Line Butterfly – Storehouse synthesis : It was the first song I get to hear of them I still like it most!
Yellow Monsters – Late: I just can’t get this song out of my head.
I got to know all three bands through a site on which korean indie band lyrics are translated.
1. Donawhale, My Aunt Mary, and PeterPan Complex. Big fan of all three. I’d travel to see them if they come anywhere in the upper East Coast.
2. Yellow Monsters – 비야 I was introduced to Yellow Monsters through an interview they did with Indieful Rok.
I always have strange feeling knowing that Korean agencies mostly concentrate on American market, trying to promote bands in US and Canada. Cause in Europe there are also people wanting to see Korean bands. So firstly where: Europe, preferably Germany or France. These countries are easy to reach from almost every other part and people there have rather large scope of interests far beyond mainstream.
Then bands. Maybe Prana or Nemesis to show some kind of “visual rock”, Glen Check or W&Whale for electronic sound and National Pigeon Unity or Hanumpa for indie rock.
I chose names of the bands that I like and consider that they really could have big attention from Europeans.
And as for favorite song… Benjamin by Yellow Monsters. This song surprised me so much with it’s feeling and the voice that I can’t stop singing it by myself even till nowdays when nobody hears)) I heard it when I was searching for the latest releases and from that time I’m big fan of the band. The most surprising was that the rest of the first album was more alternative rock or even metal and I even could not have imagined that they could do such beautiful ballads. There are some songs that make me cry (yes, unexpectedly). It is one of them. And of course I am not able to delete any of the songs by Yellow Monsters from my mp3player which means a lot^^
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to hear Benjamin at the concert while I was in Seoul or maybe guys don’t play it in clubs, but it was performed in acoustic version for Musician Search Program at Arirang. You can check it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNkd0XUHsMU
Just wanted to share my opinion^^

My favorite song is Late by Yellow Monsters. I first heard them when I went to Korea last summer for study abroad. I went to a concert in Hongdae and they happened to be performing. I’ve been a fan ever since 😀
1. Name 3 bands you would like to see play Seoulsonic and where you would want them to play.
Humming Urban Stereo, Urban Zakapa, Apollo 18…love for them to make a stop in Toronto!
2. Tell us your favorite song from any of the Seoulsonic 2012 bands and how you first heard of them.
Crying Nut – 불편한 파티 (Uncomfortable Party)…I had randomly seen someone playing their MV on their ipod out loud on a bus last year and was instantly intrigued by their sound. Despite being a shy person, I had asked that random stranger for the details of the song and from then on it introduced me to the band. So in a way, it was kind of nostalgic to see it performed live during their stop in Toronto.
1. Name 3 bands you would like to see play Seoulsonic and where you would want them to play.
– Kingston Rudieska
– the Moonshiners
– Guckkasten
Anywhere in California! i’ll drive down to see them anywhere in cali! x)
All three teams have distinctive sounds and great energy! They will surely awe global audiences with their music.
2. Tell us your favorite song from any of the Seoulsonic 2012 bands and how you first heard of them.
From crying nut, my definite favorite song is 순이 우주로. I was a fan of crying nut ever since I was in elementary school. Their 5th album is what I listen to the most when I was in middle/high school. I love that song due to it’s melodic tune and great guitar solo towards the end.
From Yellow Monsters, my favorite is Metal Gear. I love the part where the vocal is yelling out “Who’s world star?!” x) I heard of Yellow Monsters ever since they first came out, because I was a fan of GumX (the bad that Lee YongWon was in before creating Yellow Monsters). 🙂
1. Name 3 bands you would like to see play Seoulsonic and where you would want them to play.
– The Koxx
– Glen Check
– Telepathy
Anywhere in Europe!!!! 😀 Berlin? Would be awesome!
They are amazing, powerful and their music is so international they can bring a lot of people who like indie music but aren’t aware of great korean indie music 😀
2. Yellow Monster’s ‘Benjamin’ 😀 both versions… I just discovered them on youtube while searching for new, good indie music after I went to my friend’s indie concert in hongdae while being in Korea ^^
1. The Black Skirts, Crying Nut, and Momguamaum. I know Crying Nut played at Austin, TX for SXSW last month; I think the same place would be a phenomenal chance for other bands as well. It’s a place where the country (some from outside U.S.) gets together for world music. These three bands represent different characteristics that Korean indie has now. A good combination of genres within Korean indie rock.
This can include past bands as well. You can also give reasons why you want a specific band to be a part of SeoulSonic.
2.My favorite song is Circus Magic Clowns by Crying Nut. Not only is it a classic & nostalgic song for the old K-indie fans, I still remember the fever the crowd had while they sang this song during their SXSW tour at Austin. The whole club was jumping up and down for this song. That night when they played this song will be always remembered to all who were there!
Oops, forgot to erase the original instruction. Please disregard the part that begins with “This can include past bands…” 🙂
