If you search NONOL online, you’ll see a lot of releases. The platform allows artists to perform live and release an EP as part of NONOL’s compilation series. But I am curious what the contract is for revenue. Regardless, you can find many smaller artists who are difficult to find otherwise. Orangeseom recorded four live tracks and an official single of “Supermoon.”

orangeseom Nonol VOL 83. Orange Island Supermoon ep cover

Orangeseom is a mellow indie rock band. Suhwa‘s vocals are mid-range and warm, flowing over the verses without a lot of friction. “Supermoon” could be an OST song. The composition is designed so that every instrument merges together to present a singular melody.

“Dream” is the first live track. And there’s not that much difference between an official recording and a live performance. Suhwa’s vocals aren’t filtered or manipulated. In this live setting, the electronic drums do pull Junyoung Kim‘s energy down a bit. What’s good is that in this indie rock world, the band isn’t performing the same song on repeat.

“1012” adds a bit of folk to the indie rock. It’s a recognizable style and comforting in this case. “Our” shows a lot more versatility. Orangeseom moves into funk and jazz with a slower city pop melody. It’s a good way to switch up their sound. One weakness I hear with them is that they stick with a specific tempo on all the songs. And the final song is a “Supermoon” live. There’s little difference between the two except that the vocals are warmer live.

NONOL offers a needed opportunity for smaller artists and bands to promote themselves. Personally, I’m not fond of their album title structure. NONOL VOL 83. Orange Island ‘Supermoon’ is good for branding, but not great for the band. Orangeseom has a good core sound. But they need to expand because otherwise they’ll only exist as a “single-first” band instead of compelling longer releases.
