Anoc : In My Yard

Anoc‘s discography is expansive. With an OST as her first single, multiple collaborations, and sets of EPs, Anoc releases a full length that’s a perfect introduction to new listeners. In My Yard is a repackage of her Cup of Tea three-song single and four-song EP Love Bouquet with a new track, “Snapdragon.”

The new song is placed at the front of the album and gives you the impression you’re going to hear a lighter indie pop album. Anoc is the producer, mixer, and masterer of the music. It’s more impressive when you listen because she composes in a wide style. “Snapdragon” is a fun starter that hides the depth of In My Yard.

“Mum” is the second track, but the final song on the three-song single. This song has a darker, slightly moodier melody and style. Anoc has a unique vocal style that sounds slightly sharp, but this also gives the song an edge. The liner notes state that all instruments are by Anoc. I wonder if this means she played and recorded everything or some instruments were programmed like the percussion.

“Pear Blossom” continues the conversation started by “Mum.” The style is like a noir detective movie with an electronic, jazz, and indie soundtrack. The tone draws you in, especially the sustained “illusion” verse. Anon makes strong hooks that keep your attention. The final song of the first chapter is “Quince.” This one leans more into R&B than the alternative electronic indie of the previous songs. “Quince” still has the tonal attitude of the previous songs but a slightly sparser instrumental.

The next set of songs comes from Love Bouquet. “Cineraria” is very similar to “Mum.” The verses flow in a recognizable way here. It’s interesting that the EP released the same month in 2025. When listening to the album, it sounds like the Love Bouquet songs were the start of a conversation and Cup of Tea was a response. In this album order, it makes it sound like a reverse situation.

“Marmelo” follows “Quince” with a style change. Both songs feel like an expectation reset. Like Anoc explored a new idea and found a similar result twice. “Anemone” sits out as the closer like “Snapdragon.” As the final song, it bookends the eight songs. Since it’s part of Love Bouquet, it follows the same style but acts as a companion to the opener.

I liked listening to In My Yard. It feels new. Anoc has a signature that’s come from years of work. And honestly, I think she deserves more attention.
